According to reports coming from Videogamer.com, Sony’s defacto shooter franchise from developer Guerrilla Games will be receiving its fourth console iteration in form of KILLZONE 4 as a launch title along the release of Sony’s unannounced Playstation 4 hardware later this year.
Sources close to the project reveal that Guerrilla Games which are currently knee deep in development on the new shooter are expected to make a big splash on Feb 20th, when Sony unveils the Playstation 4. Looking back at Sony’s track record with the KILLZONE series, a trailer for Killzone 2 was revealed during the announcement of the PlayStation 3. While the footage revealed was later criticized for being a “target render” rather than an actual example of the console’s capabilities, the games release proved that the hardware could in fact bolster the visual fidelity of the render in many cases.
KILLZONE Mercenary was also announced for the PlayStation Vita at the time of the handheld’s announcement.
While the source suggest that Killzone 4 could be a launch window title for the unannounced Playstation 4 which is rumoured to go on sale by the end of 2013, fans of the series should more than likely expect a Qtr 1 2014 release as both KILLZONE 2 & 3 were released in February of their respective year releases. In addition, Sony has already announced KILLZONE Mercenary for the Vita as a September 18th launch which this critic believes will have its own time in the spotlight during those holiday months without having to worry about its thunder being cut short by it robust next-gen counterpart.
Come February 20th Sony is sure to offer up some surprises with whatever t is revealed however, if they want to build much anticipation for their new hardware, revealing a face-melting real-time gameplay sequence of KILLZONE 4 running on your Playstation 4 is certainly the way to go.
