From Playstation Music/Spotify, Playstation Vue – their new on-demand cable service, Playstation Video and the ever expanding Playstation Now service, Sony is convinced leading with Playstation is the order of business.
Since launching Playstation Now, the game streaming service that provides access to select PS3 games with no downloads, patches, installs or trips to the store required, across the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, Sony has also set their sights on expanding the service even further. Now, Sony has recently announced that PlayStation Now will be available on 2015 Sony Blu-ray Disc players in the U.S., as well as select 2014 Sony TVs in both the U.S. and Canada.
Sony has the first and only PlayStation Now-enabled Blu-ray Disc players, offering instant access to a growing catalog of impressive PS3 games without a console through a monthly subscription or individual rentals. All you need to play is a 2015 Sony Blu-ray Disc player, a dualshock 4 wireless controller and a USB cable.
After investing $380 million into the Gaikai video game streaming service, Sony has managed to take bold steps with the service. Today PS4, PS3, PS Vita and now Sony Blu-ray player users can Steam PS3 games to the their select devices as a form of backwards compatibility as well as share their PS4 digital library of games with their friends through SharePlay, a feature considered by many as one of the most innovative social gaming functions on consoles today.
Just how far Sony plans on expanding the Playstation Now reach is really up to them…and of course your network connection stability will also have a say in the matter.
