Square Enix with the creative ambitions of Eidos Montreal has introduced us to the first ever reveal gameplay for Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Starring Adam Jensen, the too cool for fools augmented juggernaut who now finds himself in the middle of a new conflict. While the puppetmasters as I like to call them, they sometimes go by the name ‘Illuminati’ who are behind the scenes manipulating mankind, a more direct and tangible foe begins to raise their destructive head, drawing Jensen’s much needed attention. With the oppressed in the form of augmented yet civilized humans feeling the pressure from the powers that be, a revolt begins to take deadly shape.
Getting the obvious out of the way, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided already looks truly amazing, showcasing brilliant lighting, environmental design and character models. The reveal gameplay reflects quite well from the initial CG trailer, expressing a better understanding of the experiences new features. While environments express enhanced destruction, Adams augments have turned him into a one-man special forces unit. Based on the gameplay reveal Adam’s ability to detect enemies through walls and object has been upgraded, multiple enemies can now be stunned from vantage points and Adam can now fully shield himself by layering his entire body with a bulletproof hardening yet flexible solution when the combat gets heated up.
While the prequel, Human Revolution weighed much on stealth and the gathering of data by hacking terminals which I found to be a wonderful addition to the enticing narrative, this latest gameplay reveal for Mankind Divided does not hint at those possibilities, nor do we see any familiar characters. Deus Ex: Maknkind Divided does take place two years after the events of Human Revolution and the famous ‘Aug Incident’ in Panchaea, so much has more than likely changed in the absence.
Ultimately, by the looks of things this next chapter in the amazing Deus Ex series seems to be coming along quite nicely. Passionate about the series and this new games possibilities, my expert insight is leaning towards Mankind Divided being one the best games of 2016.
