Sony has finally announced the official price of the PlayStation VR and launch window. During the brief keynote held at GDC in San Francisco, CA., Sony CEO Andrew House announced that the virtual gaming device will cost $399 and will also be available this October.
When comparing the PlayStation VR price point to the competition, we find that Sony has cut there competing price well below the asking price of the Oculus Rift, which starts at $599, as well as the HTC Vive, which will sell for $799. To be clear, it is interesting to also note the both the Oculus and the Vive will require high-end PC’s which have healthy price tags well above the PS4’s $299 and $349 asking price.
The PlayStation VR headset will come with a 5.7-inch OLED screen, capable of displaying games at up to 120 frames per second, supporting a resolution of “1920xRGBx1080” allowing each pixel to generate full RGB color.
When the device launches in October Sony has promised to deliver 50 new games until the end of the year. In addition, Sony announced that there will be a VR version for Star Wars Battlefront, which will be a PlayStation VR exclusive.
