A new dev dairy has been dropped into our inbox today, which details the creative process and the inspirations used in creating The Sinking City. The city of Oakmont will be the setting of the new supernatural adventure that players will experience.
Coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2018, this video dev diary focuses on the studio’s vision for Oakmont. You are explained how this city, as well as the environment that it’s built upon, allowed the development team to create a game in which the player will be able to decide – and be left pondering – their experiences, whether real or supernatural.
In order to make Oakmont as realistic as it is disquieting, Katerina Frolova, an Architect and City Planner, along with Aleksey Yurkin, the Lead Level Artist, discuss how they drew inspiration from the structures and building styles used on the United States’ east coast. By doing so, they’ve created an original vision of the American city where historically accurate details will help players immerse themselves in the world and freely explore Oakmont at their own peril and risk.
Taking place in the 1920s, The Sinking City is a game of adventure and investigation set in an open world inspired by the works of the famous American horror author H.P. Lovecraft. The player steps into the shoes of a private investigator who arrives in the city of Oakmont, Massachusetts — a city suffering from unprecedented floods of supernatural phenomena. Players must uncover the source of whatever has taken possession of the city, and the minds of its inhabitants.
