As speculation surrounding the exclusivity of the uber popular battle royale shooter, which is currently available for PC and Xbox One platforms known as PlayersUnknown’s Battleground started heating up when it was announced for Microsoft’s gaming console, it has been fairly confirmed that the creators of the game are eyeing as many platforms as possible to offer the experience on. However, we shouldn’t be holding our breath anytime soon if recent updates persist.
Recently, CEO of PUBG Corp Chang Han Kim admitted that he wants PUBG running on the PS4, yet Sony seems quite strict about the quality of games on their platform and currently does not do early access.
“As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now,” said Kim. “If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.
“Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.”
While it would be great to see PUBG running on Sony’s hardware, if the initial shortcomings of PUBG running on the Xbox One are any indicator of what PS4 gamers could expect as well, then Sony’s restrictions are understandable.
