Microsoft Will No Longer Manufacture the Kinect Adapter for Xbox One S and Xbox One X

Effective immediately Microsoft has dropped the production of the Kinect Adapter, which was required to operate the camera when connected to the Xbox One S, Xbox One X or Windows device. The end of the Kinect was already at hand unfortunately earlier in the generation when Microsoft’s hand was forced to offer the Xbox One as a standalone device without the Kinect, in an effort to remain affordably competitive, in light of the rapidly selling PS4.

In addition, while the Kinect device could still be purchased as an add-on, Microsoft was unable to foster any recognizable or compelling software to properly take advantage of the Kinect for the Xbox One, thus making the necessity for the device a mute point.

Speaking with Polygon, Microsoft confirmed; “After careful consideration, we decided to stop manufacturing the Xbox Kinect Adapter to focus attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming accessories across Xbox One and Windows 10,”
